    Hello IA Colleagues,

I hope you are all staying healthy and sane in your own state or country. The NCSS Executive Director Larry Paska sent out an invite to all NCSS associated groups and communities about hosting webinars. You'll find his message below. If you are interested in hosting a webinar on behalf of IA, please let me know.

    All my best wishes.
    Jing

Dear Leaders of NCSS Special Interest Communities, Operations Committees, and Associated Groups,

I hope this message finds each of you well and staying safe with your families.

Communication and collaboration – two of our NCSS strategic priorities – are more important than ever before. To this end, NCSS posted a page of COVID-19 resources, and updates it daily with new information. In the past week, we have launched several free webinars with InquirED, Kenneth C. Davis, and Natalie Wexler to support your instruction during this time. Later today, our NCSS officers will moderate a special webinar with panelists from among our leadership, including the Technology Community and the Council of State Social Studies Specialists (CS4).

Our NCSS team also invites you to create shared discussions and member engagement online about critical topics important to your group as we address American education online during the COVID-19 pandemic. We invite you to be a part of a new webinar series we are creating called Virtually Connected.

We welcome you to structure and facilitate an online webinar, sponsored by your group, through our NCSS-wide Zoom account. Our goal is to have an entire series of member-focused online discussions – moderated by our Special Interest Communities, Operations Committees, and Associated Groups – to support each other as we learn how to transition our social studies education programs online.

Here are a few things to know if you'd like to set up a webinar:

    • Available dates are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on Monday, April 13 and running through Tuesday, June 30. (Unavailable dates: April 20, April 21, April 28, May 7).
    • Available times are 1:00 – 2:00 PM, 4:00 – 5:00 PM and 7:00 – 8:00 PM (all times Eastern).
    • Please provide a topic, brief overview, the names and affiliations of your facilitators/moderators, and preferred dates and times from the schedules above. (We will do our best to accommodate your first preference, but are looking to schedule no more than one webinar per day and three webinars per week.)
    • Registration for each Virtually Connected webinar is free and open to the general public.
    • A recording of each webinar will be made available to all NCSS members only.
    • NCSS will provide you with a slide deck to build your discussion from.

If your Community, Committee or Associated Group is interested in structuring and facilitating a webinar through our NCSS-wide Zoom account and part of our Virtually Connected series, please let me know as soon as possible by replying to me directly at lpaska@ncss.org. Our team will work on arrangements for your webinar right away.

Please also feel free to ask any questions about how our series will work. We are looking to you to share the content most needed by our extended social studies community!

    Best,

    Larry
