    Dear Colleagues,

For those of you who were at the CUFA Board Meeting last week in Chicago, this will sound familiar (although I have an exact date now-see below), but for those of you who weren't, here is some background information about a professional development workshop we are offering at AERA in April:

Currently, between 30-40% of TRSE submissions come from outside of the United States, which has helped with our goals of diversifying both our readership and our understanding of social studies education. And while many of our international submissions are high-quality, we also receive a sizeable percentage of international submissions where it is clear that the authors have not received mentoring in what is needed to publish in a top-tier English-medium journal like TRSE. In light of this issue, the TRSE Editorial Board suggested that I try to put together a professional development session at AERA designed to offer mentoring aimed at international scholars who are interested in publishing inTRSE

However, over the summer, as I started working on the proposal, I realized that a proposal focused just on social studies and TRSE probably did not have much chance of being accepted. So, I reached out to the editors of Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Research in the Teaching of English, and Journal for Research in Mathematics Education to see if they would be willing to join in on the proposal, and they agreed. I also was urged to contact MJ Curry, a faculty member at University of Rochester, who does research on international scholars publishing in English-medium journals, and she also agreed to participate. Finally, Tsafrir Goldberg, professor at the University of Haifa and a member of the TRSE Editorial Board, has also agreed to lend his expertise with the session.

I am pleased to report that the proposal was accepted, and the session will be on Saturday April 6th, from 8:00am-12:00pm at the AERA 2019 meeting in Toronto. Participants will be able to sign up soon on the AERA website.

Here is where I need your help: I want to make sure that there are plenty of international social studies scholars in attendance! Many of you have more international contacts than I do, so PLEASE spread the word to your colleagues. If anyone has questions, please tell them to contact me at
