celebrating
National Civic Learning Week
March 6 - 10, 2023
Moderator Charles White, Executive Director of SSEC, will explore civic engagement paths taken by two dedicated millennials: Andres Vargas, Massachusetts State Representative of the 3rd Essex District (Haverhill) and Erin Ryan, Middle School Social Studies Teacher, Cohasset, MA. Each will reflect on how family, friends, communities, and the twists and turns of post-college life shaped their commitments to civic engagement. Their experiences both reflect and inform current initiatives to improve civic learning in the United States.
The interview will be held in conjunction with the first-ever national Civic Learning Week, March 6-10, 2023. Civic Learning Week brings together students, educators, policymakers, and public and private-sector leaders to energize the movement to make civic education a nationwide priority in order to sustain and strengthen our constitutional democracy.
