    The National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) at the Five College Center for East Asian Studies (FCCEAS) is pleased to announce two fall 2022 professional development programs.

    Far East Deep South

    Join us as we examine the history of Chinese in the Mississippi Delta. In this online workshop, we will investigate the ties between China and the Mississippi Delta through the story of one family as told in the documentary Far East Deep South

    This workshop includes:

    • Introductory webinar by Dr. Stephen Platt on Sept. 21, 2022, 7-8pm ET;
    • 7-day free access to the documentary Sept. 21-28, 2022.
    • Q&A webinar with filmmaker Baldwin Chiu on Sept. 28, 7-8:30pm ET.

    Learn more about this three-part workshop and register here. You will receive Zoom links and access information for each of the three components in mid-September.
    War and Peace: Voices from Japan

    October 3-December 19, 2022

    In this 10-week online course, we will consider the experiences of the people of Okinawa, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, both in war time 1945 and in post-1945 peace time. The objective of this course is not to debate who was/is "right" or "wrong," but to carefully consider the experiences and voices of the people in Japan who were impacted by the events to be discussed.
