GED® Testing Service is in the process of creating an all-new version of the GED® test. This next generation assessment, which is scheduled to be released in 2014, is focused on career-and college- readiness skills and is aligned to the Common Core State Standards. It is scheduled to be the first large-scale assessment national assessment specifically tied to these standards.

The input of expert educators is an important component of item development for this test. We are currently seeking outstanding members of the education community for participation on two committees:

Rangefinding - This committee will convene November 12-16, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas

Rangefinding is a process through which content-area experts examine test-takers' work to determine how well the responses fulfill the criteria of the scoring rubric.  Through this process, we are able to establish a range of responses that can be used to train the scorers of our extended response (essay-type) items.

Reviewers will be paid at a rate of $400 per day.

In addition, airfare, lodging, meals, and travel expenses will be covered. Upon confirmation of participation, we will provide meeting logistics and instructions for booking travel.

Content Review - This committee meets to evaluate the rigor, alignment, and appropriateness of new test items. Content reviews are currently set for February 2013 and will be held via a webinar. Travel is not required to participate for content-review committee members.

Reviewers will be paid at a rate of $400 per day.

    • Content experts will be secondary-level teachers of Science or Social Studies, and/or graduate students in Secondary Education programs with a focus on one of these two content areas
    • Qualified reviewers will have a bachelor's degree or higher in their content area or related educational field.
    • Recent classroom teaching experience and familiarity with Common Core State Standards or other career- and college-readiness content standards is strongly preferred.

Qualified individuals may apply to participate by submitting a resume and letter of interest to Bridget Olson, Social Studies Content Specialist. Email address:

Interested individuals are urged to submit their resumes and letters of interest as soon as possible. We are looking to fill the rangefinding committee by the end of September and content review committees shortly thereafter.
