    Dear Colleagues

The Human Rights Education Community would like to particularly invite you to join with us at the HRE Community Reception at NCSS Austin, from 4:30 to 5:30 in Level 3, Room 5c of the Albuquerque Convention Center.  We will be honoring the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice of the University of Texas at Austin, an outstanding university-based center of both human rights advocacy and education.  Affiliated with the UT Austin School of Law, the Rapoport Center provides opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty, graduate students and undergraduates, supporting an undergraduate interdisciplinary major in human rights while engaging the wider community as well.  The two professors who will present our HRE Community Scholar session, Dean Luis Zayas of the Hicks School of Social work and Elissa Steglech, Clinical Professor of Immigration Law, are both affiliated faculty of the Rapoport Center.  We have been informed that Karen Engle,  founding director of the Rapoport Center and Jeanette Herman, Assistant Dean and Director of the undergraduate Bridging Disciplines Program, which houses the Human Rights undergraduate program, will attend the reception and accept the HRE Community's memorial of recognition.

In addition, of course, the NCSS HRE Community, our colleagues and friends, will be there to welcome you and all our guests and to share the excitement about initiatives in human rights education such as those of the Rapoport Center.

I am including in this email the flyer for the HRE Community Reception.  We are limiting it to one hour so our guests can  easily attend the NCSS Reception at the LBJ Library.  I hope you will decide to include both events in your plans for Saturday evening.

All of us in the HRE Community look forward to  visiting with you.

    With regard,
