Thank you for listing these award-winning selections.  I am looking to incorporate rich non-fiction texts into my high school social studies classroom.  My personal belief is that literacy in the social studies classroom improves performance on levels of assessment (standardized tests, debates, quizzes in the classroom).   I love the various topics covered by these books and would love to assign an entire book for my classes to read rather than only assigning primary source documents as class reading.   The "real life" narratives included on this book list would really motivate and engage students by making history more personal and therefore more accessible.   Thank you again for the recommendations!
