The Program for Teaching East Asia at the University of Colorado Boulder announces the program, Olympic Friendships: Elementary Education for Global Competency in Japan and the United States. This new project will develop partnerships between Tokyo elementary schools studying about the United States and classrooms in the United States that have a unit of study about Japan. Across the two years, 10 U.S. classrooms and five Tokyo schools will engage in partner-school virtual and material exchange activities and face-to-face collaboration at the Japanese schools during a nine-day seminar in Tokyo in summer 2018. The project will support the 2020 Tokyo Olympic/Paralympic Games "Global Friendship Project" education initiative. Information and the application are also available at https://www.colorado.edu/ptea/programs/teaching-east-asia-japan/olympic-friendships-elementary-education-global-competency-japan.
