I am writing to invite doctoral students to participate in TRSE's doctoral reviewer mentoring program. We have been doing this program for a few years now, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The doctoral students who participate have indicated that it has been valuable for their professional development and has helped them gain greater insight into the manuscript review process.
Here is the program in a nutshell: Doctoral students would serve as a fourth reviewer on a manuscript in their area of interest. Their comments and publication recommendation would not influence the decision on the manuscript; however, the doctoral reviewer comments would still be forwarded to the author of the manuscript to use as they see fit.
The educative part of this program occurs after the decision has been rendered. The doctoral students would get to see the comments made by the faculty reviewers, as well as my editorial decision letter. Then, in most cases, the doctoral student would be invited to have a discussion about the review process with one or more of the TRSE Editorial Board members who served as a reviewer on the manuscript (if no Editorial Board members served as reviewers on a manuscript, then I am happy to engage in that discussion with the doctoral student). These post-decision discussions are completely optional!
If you are interested in participating in this program, just send me an email ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) with the following information:
