After three and a half years of hard work, with the participation of over 20 states and the 15 leading content organizations in the social studies, dozens of scholar-writers and over 3,000 reviewers, the long-anticipated 'College, Career and Civic Life' Framework for Social Studies State Standards (C3) is being released today, Constitution Day!

The C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards is a powerful guide to help each state strengthen instruction in the social studies by establishing fewer, clearer and higher standards for instruction in civics, economics, geography and history, K-12. The C3 Framework will also be an invaluable tool for teachers, school districts and curriculum writers to strengthen their social studies programs to a) enhance the rigor of the individual disciplines, b) build critical thinking, problem solving and participatory skills vital to engaged citizenship and c) align academic programs to the 'Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies.'
The development of the C3 Framework was guided by over 20 states, making the Framework a powerful tool developed by the states for the states. It is exciting to note that two states, Kentucky and Maryland, have already implemented the C3 Framework to revise their state social studies standards, even before it's official release today!
